G.R.O.W.T.H. - Culture & Conduct

We want to experience G.R.O.W.T.H.  at our church. The Bethel Baptist Church Culture and Conduct will be used to build a positive and biblical culture. This will provide direction for our words, actions, and decisions, as we seek to follow Jesus as a faith family.

The code of conduct will be based on the acronym G.R.O.W.T.H.

G            Gospel Centered (Word Driven)

                a. We are a Gospel centered community. Everything will be done in light of advancing the gospel.

                b. The gospel is the message of the word of God. We are a word driven church.

R             Respectful

                a. Tactful – speak truth in grace. Authenticity is not an excuse to be rude.

                b. Honoring – we will give honor to those who do good work

  c. Confidentiality – feeling safe comes from confidentiality so we will build a culture where people can confess, repent and grow

                                i. Unless a person says something that needs to be reported such as ongoing harm/abuse of a minor or someone who has abused a child and still has access to children

O            Ownership

                a. Mission & Vision

                                i. Making disciples who make disciples

                b. Following through on your word

                                i. Do what you say you will do

ii. Don’t do what you say you won’t do

                                iii. Don’t overpromise or underdeliver

                c. Authenticity

                                i. Don’t try to be someone else or gifted in a way you aren’t. God made you to be you.

W           Wisdom

                a. Pray first – God is wisdom. Wisdom comes from God. Prayer is the first priority to get wisdom.

                b. Community second – wisdom is found in community and the advice of others. No one has all the answers, and one person does not make all the decisions.

T             Trust

                a. Accountable relationships

                                i. If you fall short, tell someone.

ii. We are a faith family and have the best intentions. Restore gently.

                b. Choose trust

                                i. If there is a gap between experience/expectations, fill it will trust

ii. If a person leads with suspicion on account of a person who is not present, come to their defense, trusting good intentions

iii. If a poor experience with another person does not change or gets worse, go to that person directly

                c. Lead vulnerably

                                i. Be willing to be vulnerable and tell people you can fall short. This builds trust knowing that we are all imperfect people serving perfect God.

H            Helpful

a. No problem is beneath any person.  No person and nothing is a bother but an opportunity to serve for the glory of God and the good of others.

b. Collaboration is an opportunity to help and facilitate growth towards the Kingdom of God

c. Be patient, constructive and accessible/approachable

We are a church of imperfect people, being perfected. While we do not always get tings right, we are committed to grow and pursue this culture. This is the culture we desire to see, these are the standards we will strive to see, this is how we will glorify God and advance the gospel at Bethel Baptist Church.
